Can you eat fruit on keto?
TRANSCRIPT:
Fruit has been given health halo status among nutrition experts because of the fiber, vitamins, and minerals it contains. But the challenge with consuming fruit on keto is it’s all sugary carbohydrates. Yes, it’s “natural” sugar, but it will naturally raise blood sugar all the same. Sugar is sugar is sugar!
So when you go on a low-carb, moderate protein, high-fat, ketogenic diet, opt for the lower sugar fruits like berries or slow the blood sugar and insulin effects by adding fat to them. Almond butter on a thin apple slice and cream or full-fat yogurt with strawberries, for example, are great options. Test your blood sugar to see if fruit works for you.
