Can you maintain muscle mass while eating Keto?
TRANSCRIPT:
Many well-meaning personal trainers put out the notion that you will lose muscle mass when you eat a low-carb, moderate protein, high-fat, ketogenic diet. But this isn’t necessarily true based on what the science has shown. A 2006 study by Anssi Manninen published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism found a ketogenic diet is protective against muscle loss when adequate levels of protein are consumed. So the key is to bump up the amount of protein you are consuming slightly when you are lifting heavy weights.
If you eat 80g protein on non-workout days, then perhaps bump it up to 100g on days you lift weights. It’s as easy as that.
