Many people think keto is dangerous because doctors and dietitians warn them against ketosis. But this is a case of misinformation about the difference between a truly dangerous condition called ketoacidosis and a very healthy state of nutritional ketosis. They are not even close to being the same thing.

Is keto dangerous?
There are two very similar-sounding words starting with “keto” that couldn’t be more different.
Ketoacidosis is a very serious medical condition that primarily people with Type 1 diabetes have to deal with when they don’t properly manage their blood glucose and insulin requirements and then ketones can start to build up in the blood to astronomically high levels in excess of 20 mmol/L making it life-threatening.
Ketosis is a perfectly natural metabolic fat-burning state that takes place when you eat a real foods-based low-carb, moderate protein, high-fat diet with ketones levels in the 1-3 mmol/L range. This is a sign of robust health!
Ketones in the body aren’t dangerous when they are put there through good nutrition.
